Alison Conklin Editorial

About

My editorial work is an extension of my passion for photography through my obsession with food, fashion, design, and interesting people.

When I was very little, my mother passed away quite suddenly. She and my father shared a love for photography and together they snapped thousands of images, which they processed in the darkroom that my father had built in our house. Soon after I lost my mother, I began pouring through all of the black and white images of her. These images taught me about who my mother was. I was struck with an intense appreciation for capturing moments and emotion through a single photograph. This idea has shaped everything about who I am, how I work, and why I do what I do.

My philosophy applies to both my work shooting weddings, families, and for the many editorial projects I’ve been fortunate to be a part of. I want my photographs to evoke a feeling for anyone who sees them. I love color, joy, light, air, smiles, pattern, organized clutter, and unexpected angles and moments. I hope that my photos will immediately transport people into the world of that image. In order to capture this raw and instantaneous truth, I shoot freehand, in natural light, all day, every day.
